Student-athletes are provided the opportunity to participate in 11 intercollegiate varsity sports at Wright State University, which include five sports for men's programs and six for the women. Sports offered for women include soccer, volleyball, and cross country in the fall; basketball and indoor track in the winter; and outdoor track in the spring. The men compete in soccer and cross country in the fall; basketball in the winter; and baseball and golf in the spring.

An NCAA Division I member since the 1987-88 season, Wright State University is a member of the Horizon League. The winner of the post-season conference tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA post season tournament in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, golf, and volleyball.
